Vial of Life
Vial of Life is a safety program implemented by the police department and puts vital information into the hands of emergency responders when it is needed most, during the first minutes of a critical illness or accident in your home. Important medical and patient information is placed on a standardized worksheet then placed in a zip-top bag, which is then hung on your refrigerator. This information will assist responding personnel with properly treating you or your family in the case of an emergency.
Importance of the Program
Emergency personnel can greatly benefit from having vital information immediately available upon their arrival. This program can be particularly beneficial if the patient is unconscious and unable to speak with first responders. Vial of Life can help determine the best possible treatment of the patient. In addition to emergency personnel, your vital information will be supplied to nurses and doctors at the treating hospital. Do not put social security numbers on the data form.
Place Vial of Life Sticker
Once you have gathered the information for your zip-top bag, be sure to place the red "Vial of Life" sticker on your front door. This lets first responders know you are a participant in the program. Once they see the sticker they will retrieve the information sheet from the zip-top bag on your refrigerator and begin treatment.
This is ideal for seniors or individuals with chronic illnesses
How to Obtain a Kit
The vial of life kits are completely free and available in the lobby of the police department 24 hours a day 7 days a week. If you have any questions about this program please email MPO Johnathan Gilbert.
