Permitting
Your first step in obtaining a permit will depend upon the type of work you are planning to do. See the following information for assistance. Please contact our office if you have any questions. For permitting forms and applications, please click here to go to our Forms, Applications, and Checklists page.
Permits for Additions, Alterations, Accessories or Repairs to Existing Dwellings
The process begins with a submittal of building plans to our Development Coordinator. The Development Coordinator will work with you to make sure that you have a complete submittal and will route your plans to the town’s various plan reviewers (building, planning, stormwater, etc.) to obtain an approval. Typically, the submittal will need to include two sets of construction drawings and a site plan.
Once the plans are approved, a building permit application and business license application (unless contractor already has a valid town business license) must be supplied to our permitting staff for processing. The contractor applying for the permits would then need to come to Town Hall. There you will be asked to present appropriate town and state licenses, pay for your permits, and will be able to leave with your permit in hand.
