The Town of Fort Mill announces it has purchased the property at the intersection of Tom Hall and Springs streets on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, to create additional parking opportunities in the downtown area.
The acquisition of this property, which was previously home to the now closed Hardee’s restaurant, follows a multi-year search for options to expand parking for the vibrant and growing downtown business district. Town impact fees have been used to help fund the purchase.
Free parking is available on that property today to help alleviate the displaced parking and congestion from the Duke Energy project around the Main Street corridor.
Plans include upgrading the property by removing the vacant building, paving areas where needed, and landscaping the property. This work will begin once the Duke Power project is completed. Once finished, the property will offer upwards of 70 new free parking spaces for public use.
The Town reminds those that park downtown to use caution and adhere to all traffic and pedestrian safety measures.
