The Town of Fort Mill is pleased to announce that it is under contract to purchase two historic buildings in Downtown Fort Mill.
Located at 123 and 205 North White Street, these office buildings were previously home to the Springs Executive Office and the Springs Research and Development Center.
Sitting adjacent to the Town’s Amphitheater and Walter Y. Elisha Park is the former Executive Office at 205 N. White St. Built in 1950, the property is iconic in its design and character. The Town plans to occupy the building with Town Staff, the Fort Mill Police Department, a Council Chambers, a Municipal Court, conference rooms and training rooms.
The former Research and Development Center was built in 1971 and is currently leased by Pike Incorporated. This lease will transfer to the Town upon closing.
A comprehensive facilities study was conducted for the Town in 2023 and suggestions for expansion were recommended. Once the study was reviewed, Council and Town Staff began the work to determine costs for the projected needs. During the research, opportunities to purchase space or build new space were also conducted.
“Ultimately, the decision to purchase the buildings on North White Street provided the Town a win-win opportunity. The needed space was available, expansion for the next 20 years was possible and the Town could preserve precious history within the Town,” said Fort Mill Mayor Guynn Savage.
The closing on the purchase is expected to be in late May 2024. Once purchased, the Town plans to complete maintenance, upgrades, and renovations to the facility before beginning to move staff into the facility by late 2024. Both the current Town Hall Building and the current Police Department will be sold.
