The Town of Fort Mill is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Gordon Burnette III as its new Assistant Town Manager. Burnette brings a wealth of experience in public administration, strategic communications and community engagement, making him a valuable addition to the town’s leadership team.
With an extensive background in education administration and public relations, Burnette has served in senior leadership roles, including Chief Communications Officer for Brunswick County Schools and the Public Schools of Robeson County in North Carolina. Throughout his career, he has successfully managed large-scale communications efforts, fostered strong relationships with governmental agencies, and led strategic initiatives benefiting local communities.
Dr. Burnette holds a Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership from East Carolina University, a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from North Carolina State University. His expertise spans public policy, leadership development, marketing and regional community engagement.
Fort Mill Mayor Guynn Savage expressed her enthusiasm regarding his appointment as Assistant Town Manager.

As Assistant Town Manager, Gordon will oversee the Parks & Recreation Department, Communications Department, Events Department, Municipal Court and the Information Technology Department. Gordon will play a key role in advancing Fort Mill’s vision for enhancing public services and strengthening community partnerships. His leadership and experience will support the town’s continued efforts to provide high-quality services to residents and businesses.
