[ARCHIVED] Town Announces Purchase of Property to Support Future Expansion of Doby Bridge Park

Town purchasing property at Doby Bridge Park-1-20-26

The Town of Fort Mill is excited to announce the purchase of approximately 7.57 acres of land immediately adjacent to Doby Bridge Park, providing an opportunity for future park expansion and enhanced recreational offerings for the community.

This acquisition reflects the Town’s priority to expand recreational opportunities, a need consistently identified through public input during the Town of Fort Mill’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan process.

This strategic acquisition supports the Town’s long-term commitment to expanding access to quality recreational spaces and preserving land for the benefit of the Fort Mill community.

“This property gives us an exciting opportunity to expand Doby Bridge Park and create additional recreational options for our residents,” said Mayor Guynn Savage. “It is critical that we invest in spaces that support healthy lifestyles, outdoor activity, and quality of life for families across our community.”

Town Manager Cary Vargo emphasized the flexibility of the site and its potential to serve a wide range of residents.

“This land provides multiple opportunities for active and passive recreation that align with community interests and long-range planning goals,” said Vargo. “Potential uses include a disc golf course and other low-impact recreational amenities that will complement the existing park and provide additional outdoor experiences for residents of all ages.”

While no immediate development timeline has been established, the Town will evaluate future uses of the property as part of its parks and recreation planning efforts, with a focus on community benefit and sustainability.
