The administration Major is responsible for handling the day-to-day operations of the department. Responsibilities include overseeing personnel and managing the department’s logistics issues. Duties also include management of all School Resource Officers and acting as the department’s Public Information Officer.
School Resource Officers (SROs)
The School Resource Officer program is a problem-solving approach to reducing crime by assigning specially trained officers to our elementary, middle and high school campuses in order to establish relationships with students, parents and staff. The department has 11 SROs.
The SRO program’s basic goals are to provide a safe learning environment and help reduce school violence, to improve school and law enforcement collaboration and to improve perceptions and relations between students, staff, and law enforcement officials.
While the primary duty is to reduce crime in the schools, SROs often assist with educational presentations, and routinely attend meetings and extracurricular activities specific to their assigned schools.
Public Information Officer
Reporting directly to the Chief of Police, the Public Information Officer (PIO) serves as the liaison between the department and members of the media, both local and national. Our PIO is responsible for the release of accurate and timely information regarding the activities of the department to the news media, as well as the citizens of Fort Mill.
