The Town of Fort Mill is excited to announce its latest recycling initiative to help keep litter out of public spaces with the launch of its new Bags to Benches program. Through the program, residents can now deposit plastic grocery store-type bags for recycling. The Town is partnering with NexTrex, a company that produces eco-friendly outdoor products from recycled plastic. NexTrex will award a 48” bench for every 1000 pounds of shopping bags collected (equal to 81,000 bags). The Town is eligible to receive one bench in a 12-month period.
The Town has installed collection bins at three drop-off locations around Town, including:
-outside Fort Mill Town Hall (200 Tom Hall St.)
-outside the Fort Mill Community Center (formerly Banks St. Gym; 1011 Talbot Drive)
-in the lobby of the YMCA at the Complex (971 Tom Hall St.)
Residents should note that these bins can only be used for depositing clean, dry plastic grocery store-type bags. No trash or other recyclable items will be accepted in these bins.
